'Been A Long Journey...,' Shreyas Iyer's Heartwarming Message Ahead Of Asia Cup

Shreyas Iyer is set to make his comeback into the Indian team for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 in Sri Lanka. The 28-year-old was out of action since March this year, after he sustained a back injury during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against Australia.

Iyer subsequently missed the entirety of IPL 2023 season, as he used his time to attain full recovery at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). Ahead of the 2023 Asia Cup, the cricketer expressed his gratitude towards the academy for assisting him in his path to recovery.

Shreyas Iyer was among the three Indian stalwarts, alongside KL Rahul and Jasprit Bumrah, who spent the past few months at the NCA. A couple of days after BCCI included the trio in India’s Asia Cup 2023 squad, Iyer expressed his gratitude towards the NCA for helping his attain full recovery.

The Mumbai veteran wrote:

“Been a long journey but I'm super grateful to the people who stood by my side to help me to get where I am today. Thank you Nitin bhai and Rajini sir and everyone at The NCA, who've been tirelessly helping me. Much love and much appreciated 🙏”

Shreyas Iyer last featured in ODIs during the three-match series against Sri Lanka back in January at home. The right-hander returned with 94 runs throughout the three innings, and unleashed couple of crucial knocks against Bangladesh in India’s preceding assignment.

Iyer’s fitness and performance at the Asia Cup will be keenly observed by the team management and selectors, as he bids to extend his return till the World Cup later this year.
