Dhruv Jurel drew up his maiden Test century by scoring 125 against West Indies on Day 2 of the series-opening first match at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Batting at number five, the Indian wicketkeeper-batter conjured a huge 206-run partnership with Ravindra Jadeja to extend India’s lead past the 250-run mark before stumps.

Celebrating his landmark innings, Jurel chose an interesting gesture that soon caught everyone’s attention.

Dhruv Jurel explains his “century salute”

Dhruv Jurel celebrated his half-century with a “salute” shortly after the drinks break on Day 2 of the first Test in Ahmedabad against West Indies. Explaining his unique gesture, the stand-in wicketkeeper-batter said that his fifty celebration was dedicated to his father, who has previously served in the Indian Army.

Interestingly, Dhruv Jurel also employed a rather unusual gesture for celebrating his century, as he performed a “gun salute” upon reaching the three-figure mark for the first time in his Test career. At the end of the second day’s play, the 24-year-old said that his century celebration was dedicated to the Indian Army.

Dhruv Jurel said:

“My fifty celebration was dedicated to my father and my hundred celebration was for the Indian army, I have seen closely how hard they work.”

Notably, Dhruv Jurel’s comments and his unique celebration tactics occurred shortly after the conclusion of the controversy-marred Asia Cup 2025 in the UAE. At the height of severing India-Pakistan geopolitical ties, Pakistan cricketers Sahibzada Farhan and Haris Rauf as well as Indian T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav were either fined by the ICC or let off with a warning in the tournament.

Farhan and Rauf in particular, had sparked controversies with their on-field celebrations, albeit for the Pakistani Army and Air Force. Suryakumar Yadav, however, was fined for dedicating India’s win over Pakistan to the victims of the Pahalgam terrorist attack that occurred earlier this year.
