'It Was Bit Casual': Gambhir 'Slams' Virat Kohli's Shot-Selection Against Pakistan

The much-anticipated India-Pakistan Asia Cup 2023 encounter was a see-saw affair, where momentum shifted towards both teams across different phases.

The match sadly ended in a wash-out after incessant rains ensured no play was possible after India's innings, where the Rohit Sharma-led XI scored 266 with help from Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya.

With helpful conditions at hand, Shaheen Shah Afridi rattled India's best batters Sharma and Virat Kohli in the same over, much to the disappointment of Indians worldwide. While Sharma got bowled from a peach, Kohli poked outside off stump and had his stumps knocked over via an inside edge.

Former India opener Gautam Gambhir, who is known for his tussles with Kohli, has slammed the batter for his shot selection against Pakistan.  Speaking to Star Sports, the 2011 World Cup-winning player explained how the former India batter looked causal in the middle and played a nothing shot.

Here's what Gambhir said

"That was a nothing shot, neither forward, neither back. I think was a bit casual. That's what you get when you play someone like Shaheen Afridi. You don't know whether to go forward or back,

While Gambhir found fault in Kohli, co-commentators Waqar Younis and Matthew Hayden credited Afridi for deceiving the star batter and hailed the dismissal as unlucky.

The 34-year-old will look to overcome this poor outing and make amends against Nepal today in India's second Group A tie.
