'India Will be Saying a Big Thank You': Why Has Gavaskar Taken a Dig at Babar Azam?

Pakistan's pace attack was all over India in their first clash of the Asia Cup 2023. All ten wickets of the Indian team were taken by the seamers of the Men in Green. The top order of the Indian batting line-up was demolished by Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf.

This was the second time when India's premier batter Rohit Sharma was dismissed by Pakistan's frontline seamer Shaheen Shah Afridi. In the last couple of years, India has struggled against Shaheen. Well, this time even Virat Kohli became the victim of the left-arm seamer.

Even though the seamers of Pakistan dominated the Indian top order, the former Indian cricketer, Sunil Gavaskar believes that Babar Azam did not use the pacers accordingly. Also, he did not understand the logic of having three quality fast bowlers, as Babar brought spin from both ends.

Here's what Sunil Gavaskar said:

“I think the bowling changes didn't make any sense because if you have three bowlers, the pace bowlers have taken the early wickets, you want to keep at least one ongoing from one end. I know that you can't really go through long spells, but one person could have been bowling from one end and Shadab or Nawaz from the other end," Gavaskar told India Today.

He took a dig at Babar's captaincy as he believes Babar should have kept one of the seamers from one end which would have brought the wicket of any one among Hardik and Ishan who eventually made a partnership of 138 runs in the middle overs, courtesy Pakistan's spin attack.
