'This Is Because Of Too Much...': Harbhajan On Shubman Gill's Lack Of Form

India's most promising batter, Shubman Gill's 2023 can be described in two halves — Pre and Post Indian Premier League (IPL). Gill, until the conclusion of IPL 2023, scored runs with ease at both international and franchise levels. However, the same could not be said after the cash-rich tournament, where the opening batter managed just two fifties in 14 innings for India.

In the ongoing Asia Cup 2023, Gill's first outing against Pakistan on Saturday turned out to be a rather scratchy knock. The 23-year-old managed just 10 runs from 35 balls, only to get bowled over by Haris Rauf.

Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh despite Gill's poor run has backed the youngster to score runs soon. Speaking to India Today, the former Indian veteran explained that Gill's new-found rut is due to being overexposed to cricket and not his technique.

Gill since IPL 2023, has toured England, West Indies, and now Sri Lanka, and appeared in three Tests, four One-Day Internationals (ODIs), and five T20 Internationals (T20Is).

Nothing wrong with Gill's technique: Harbhajan

“I think this is because of too much cricket. He has been playing for quite a while now. He had a great IPL. Every player needs some rest because IPL is a very demanding tournament. You go to travel and also play every second day. I feel he just needs a bit of a break. He's a quality player and there's no doubt about that."

"He will come back to form and start scoring runs. I believe there's nothing wrong with his technique and the way he’s batting. But it's just that his confidence is a bit low and I'm sure if he gives himself a bit more time, he's going to come good."

The Gujarat Titans player will be in action for India today when they clash in the final Group A encounter against Nepal in the Asia Cup 2023.
