Sarfaraz Khan’s long-awaited dream came true in the first Test between India and New Zealand, as the unconventional batter scored a magnificent 150 in a challenging situation at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium. His maiden Test hundred, which had been 10 years in the making, helped India close the gap after trailing New Zealand by a daunting 356 runs.

However, what made the moment even more special for the young batter was receiving high praise from captain Rohit Sharma and former skipper Virat Kohli.

On day 4 of the first Test, Sarfaraz fulfilled his dream in spectacular fashion. Coming off a disappointing three-ball duck in the first innings, he displayed remarkable composure in the second, countering New Zealand’s attack and guiding India to a much-needed recovery.

In a video shared by the BCCI, Sarfaraz expressed his joy over the recognition he received from head coach Gautam Gambhir, captain Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli.

“It feels so good when a captain & player of Rohit bhai’s stature tells you, ‘well played’. Virat bhai and Gautam sir told me well played as well. It was a proud moment for you, legends of the game, appreciating me,“ said in a BCCI video.

Sarfaraz Khan's Dream Partnership With Virat Kohli

A major highlight of Sarfaraz’s innings was his partnership with Virat Kohli. The duo added 136 runs together for the third wicket.  For Sarfaraz, batting alongside Kohli in the Indian jersey was a dream come true, having admired him since childhood.

Kohli’s guidance during the innings was instrumental in helping Sarfaraz stay composed under pressure. Kohli's experience and confidence gave him the belief he needed, and their partnership became one of the defining moments of the match.

“I used to watch Virat bhaiya since childhood. It was a dream to play alongside, which came true at RCB. But I didn’t know that I would once share the dressing room and bat alongside him for India. He told me to back myself, play freely, and gave me confidence. It was a dream day,” Sarfaraz revealed.

The Mumbai batter's journey to his first Test has been not less than remarkable. Having made his first-class debut a decade ago, Sarfaraz had to wait patiently for his opportunity on the international stage. Earlier this year, after consistent performances in domestic cricket, he finally earned his maiden India call-up.
