Bangladesh’s Under-19 side just wrapped up its busy schedule as their United Kingdom tour has ended. As the entire side was hyped up for the tour, rain played a spoilsport throughout the series.

Though the series has not ended as they expected, the visitors have found the positives even in these obstacles. Bangladesh U-19’s coach highlighted the valuable takeaways from the tour.

Rain Puts A Dampener On Bangladesh’s UK Tour

In a significant development, the Bangladesh Under-19 traveled to the United Kingdom for a limited-overs tour where they met the Ireland Under-19 side in the first match and played a five-match Youth ODI series with the England Under-19 side. Despite limited chances, several young talents managed to leave their mark with eye-catching performances. However, persistent rain proved to be the biggest spoiler of the tour.

Against Ireland Under-19, Bangladesh batted first, but the first innings couldn’t be completed due to rain interruption. In the first Youth ODI against the England Under-19 side, the young Tigers showcased domination. Batter Rizan Hossan smashed a brilliant century, and bowler Samiun Basir Ratul secured a four-wicket haul and registered a massive 87-run win.

After that, the England Under-19 side bounced back and secured a victory in the second match of the series. But the rest of the series turned into heartbreak, with the third and fourth matches washed out mid-innings and the finale abandoned without a single ball bowled.

Though the rain played a bigger part in the series than the players' performance, Bangladesh Under-19 coach Naveed Nawaz believed this was a learning experience for the youngsters, too. As quoted by the Daily Star, he stressed that the experience could be crucial in shaping strategies for future clashes against England U-19.

“It was a great experience. Unfortunately, rain spoilt most of the matches, but I am sure our boys learnt a lot from this. Experience of conditions will help players learn to navigate and to know what England U-19 looks like to do strategic comparisons, since we might play them in the World Cup as well,” Nawaz said.

Wrapping up this series, the Bangladesh Under-19 side shifted their focus to the next series. Back on home soil, they gear up for a five-match Youth ODI series against Afghanistan, determined to script a winning run.
