Central Zone won the 2025 Duleep Trophy season by defeating South Zone in the final. Seasoned New Zealand batter Kane Williamson is set to miss the upcoming white-ball series against Australia at home. In other news, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is reportedly threatening to boycott their upcoming Asia Cup 2025 match over the non-addressing of the ‘no handshaking’ saga against Team India.
Capping an eventful day in the world of cricket, here we take a look at five of the biggest cricketing news that emerged out of Monday, September 15.
Rajat Patidar-Led Central Zone Win Duleep Trophy 2025
Central Zone pipped South Zone by six wickets on Day 5 to lift the 2025 Duleep Trophy in Bengaluru. Required to chase 65 runs for a win, Central Zone lost four wickets in the process, with captain Rajat Patidar making just 13 after whacking an exceptional century in the first innings of the match. Yash Rathod bagged the ‘Player of the Match’ award for his monumental knock of 194 runs earlier in the game.
Kane Williamson To Miss AUS Series, Available For 2026 T20 WC
Legendary New Zealand batter Kane Williamson has signed a casual playing agreement with NZC alongside Devon Conway, Finn Allen and Lockie Ferguson. Williamson will be missing New Zealand’s upcoming white-ball series against Australia.
However, the modern-day batting great has made himself available for the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka. It is worth noting that Kane Williamson has not played a single international for New Zealand since the conclusion of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy in the UAE earlier this year.
PAK Lodges Protest With ACC, Fire Member Over Handshake Row
The Indian team’s refusal of shaking hands with Pakistan players at the end of their Asia Cup 2025 match in Dubai on September 14 has not gone down well with the ‘Men in Green’ contingent. In a significant development, Pakistan has officially lodged a protest with the ACC against the Indian team. As per reports, the Mohsin Naqvi-led PCB has also suspended director of cricket Usman Wahla for failing to control the situation.
The PCB has further demanded action against match referee Andy Pycroft, and has threatened to boycott their upcoming Asia Cup 2025 match against UAE if the ICC fails to fulfil their demands.
UAE Captain Muhammad Waseem Scripts T20I World Record
UAE captain and senior opener Muhammad Waseem belted 69 runs off 54 balls against Oman in match seven of the 2025 Men’s T20 Asia Cup in Abu Dhabi. Waseem’s match-winning innings extended his T20I tally past the 3,000-run mark, thus helping the 31-year-old become the fastest batter in format history to complete 3,000 runs, in terms of number of balls faced. Waseem faced 1,947 balls to reach 3,000 runs in just 84 T20I innings, breaking the record previously held by seasoned English campaigner Jos Buttler (2,068 balls).
Mohammed Siraj, Prendergast Win Player Of The Month Awards
Indian fast bowler Mohammed Siraj bagged the ICC Player of the Month award for the month of August. The 31-year-old delivered a match-winning performance for Team India at the start of the month, doing so against England at The Oval with a haul of 9-190.
Young Ireland all-rounder Orla Prendergast, on the other hand, won the ICC Women’s Player of the Month award for her heroics in the home T20I series against Pakistan Women and during the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Europe Division 1 Qualifier. In the series against Pakistan alone, Prendergast scored 144 runs and picked up four wickets to orchestrate Ireland’s 2-1 win.
