Controversies continue to plague the recently concluded BPL 2024/25 (Bangladesh Premier League), with one emerging after another. The latest involves Indo-Canadian host Yesha Sagar, who abruptly left the Chittagong Kings during her stint due to a financial dispute.
Yesha Sagar Left BPL Abruptly
Following news of the Durbar Rajshahi franchise's failure to pay players, another fall-out has arisen involving the Chittagong Kings, who are embroiled in a quarrel with host and presenter Yesha Sagar.
It was previously reported that franchise owner Samir Khader Chowdhury accused Sagar of violating her contract by not attending a sponsor dinner despite being officially invited. After receiving the notice, Yesha immediately withdrew from the tournament and returned home without fulfilling her duties.
However, Sagar has now taken to social media to clarify the situation. In a detailed statement, she claims that the Kings delayed payments, as she remains partially unpaid, adding that the dinner was not part of her contract.
"I've noticed a lot of speculation lately, and I want to clarify a few things about my time with the BPL. Payments from Chittagong Kings were delayed and remain partially unpaid. I was also asked to participate in an advertisement for one of their partners, which was not part of my contract. My visa expired on January 19th, and despite repeated assurances, it was never extended. They held onto my passport for two weeks, providing me with conflicting answers each time,"
Furthermore, Sagar alleges that her passport was taken away as the franchise failed to extend her Bangladesh visa, providing unsatisfactory answers when she inquired about her stay. After contacting several well-wishers, she left the tournament immediately, feeling unsafe in the country.
"After multiple follow-ups, I finally received it back without a visa. The very same night got my passport, just a couple of hours later, I received a legal notice that was highly inappropriate and contained contradictions to my original contract. Given all that was happening, and knowing I was in the country under the franchise's responsibility, I didn't feel safe and decided to leave after consulting with a few local well-wishers."
It will be interesting to see how the Chittagong franchise responds to these allegations. The Kings finished second on the table and reached the final after winning the second Qualifier. Unfortunately, they lost to Fortune Barisal by three wickets in a thrilling finale, ending the league as runners-up.
