India's next big thing, Shubman Gill, has been impressive since his debut back in 2019. The youngster, who has played many defining knocks, has smashed another record during the ongoing 3rd ODI against England, beating the former South African cricketer.
Shubman Gill In Record Books
After initially batting at third position in the series opener, Shubman Gill eventually moved to the top of the order as he played decent knocks one after the other, racking up three consecutive half-centuries in the ongoing ODI series against the Jos Buttler-led English side.
By doing so, Gill became the seventh Indian to smash three consecutive half-centuries in a three-match ODI bilateral series for India as thwacked scores of 87, 60, and 78* (currently batting).
After putting up such great performances, Gill smashed another major record on the way, becoming the fastest player ever in Indian cricket history to hit 2,500 runs. Shubman reached this landmark in his 50th ODI after debuting in January 2019.
Shubman broke this record after beating middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer who scored the same amount of runs in 59 innings. Gill, however, consumed nine innings less than his counterpart.

Moreover, Shubman is not only the fastest player from India but in fact, all over the world, now holding the record for the fastest 2,500 runs in ODIs, beating South Africa's Hashim Amla, who achieved similar feat in 53 innings.
Talking about Amla, who made his ODI debut in 2008, the South African veteran went on to score 8,113 runs in his overall ODI career, averaging 49.46. Meanwhile, Gill, who has featured in 50 matches so far, has managed over 2,500 runs while averaging above 60 in his career. He has struck runs at 101.84, along with 16 half-centuries and six centuries.
Shubman's terrific form has been a massive boost for India going into the Champions Trophy 2025 as they aim to assert their dominance in the global event.
