India’s World Cup veteran Yuvraj Singh wants the current team management to stick with KL Rahul at number four at the forthcoming 2023 edition at home. Rahul recently made his return to the side from injury, and impressed one-and-all with his match-winning knocks at the 2023 Asia Cup and in the subsequent home series against Australia.

Moreover, the elegant right-hander did so while batting at either number four or number five for the Indian team, positions integral for any side’s batting line-up.

Yuvraj Singh, who himself commanded the middle-order position during India’s triumphant Word Cup 2011 run at home, is backing the in-form batter to come up trumps at the upcoming event for the ‘Men in Blue’.

India wants KL Rahul at number 4, says Yuvraj Singh

Yuvraj Singh praised KL Rahul for his sublime touch with the bat, even though he only recently attained full recovery from his injury. The former all-rounder acknowledged Rahul’s Asia Cup 2023 century on spin-friendly Sri Lankan pitches, and his crucial 39 in team’s must-win Super Four game against the hosts.

"India wants K.L. Rahul to bat at number 4 now. They have to give him 15-20 games in that position. In the Asia Cup, coming back from injury, he scored a 100. On a spinning track he scored a vital 39 runs. He is looking good right now, so they need to stick with him at number 4," Yuvraj Singh said while speaking with The Week.

Rahul was included in Team India’s World Cup 2023 squad earlier this month, after he found his name among the 15-player line-up. The upcoming tournament marks his second World Cup appearance after the 2019 edition.

The Indian team, under Rohit Sharma, is slated to commence its World Cup 2023 campaign with a match against Australia in Chennai on October 8. However, the ‘Men in Blue’ will also face defending champions England for a warm-up affair on September 30 in Assam.
