The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) franchise has roped in Mo Bobat as their new director of cricket. He will be replacing Mike Hesson, who previously served the RCB camp as the director of cricket operations of both men’s and women’s teams.

Mo Bobat, on the other hand, has been a part of ECB set-up for 12 years and was appointed as their Performance Manager in 2019.

‘Serving RCB will be a huge honour’ – Says Mo Bobat

Earlier this year, the RCB management also appointed Andy Flower as their new head coach for next year’s IPL 2024 season. Notably, both Flower and Mo Bobat have collaborated with each other for the England cricket team.

Bobat said that he is looking forward to his re-union with the former Zimbabwe batsman, and hoped that his own partnership with RCB will bring success for the franchise.

Here's what Bobat said:

“I’m really looking forward to working closely with Andy Flower, somebody I know well, to take on the baton and deliver the success that RCB craves.”

Mo Bobat also acknowledged the works of outbound RCB staff members Mike Hesson and Sanjay Bangar, who served the franchise by delivering years of consistent performance. The 40-year-old further described RCB as one of the most recognizable franchises in the world, and serving them will be a huge honor for him.

“RCB is one of the most recognizable franchises in the world. I’m both excited and proud to be joining RCB as Director of Cricket. To serve them will be a huge honour. It’s important to acknowledge the work of both Mike Hesson and Sanjay Bangar, for the stability and consistency they provided over recent years.”

RCB, despite starting out in 2008 as one of the earliest IPL franchises, is yet to secure a single IPL title to date. They have reached the finals on three occasions (2009, 2011 and 2016) but came up short each time.

The team does possess a remarkable pool of talent, including its senior-most member and former captain Virat Kohli.
