Venkatesh Iyer starred as the top scorer of the match with his blistering 52* (26) as the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) clinched their third Indian Premier League (IPL) title on Sunday night, defeating the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 8 runs.

Following another impactful knock, Iyer has received praise from the Indian legend, Sunil Gavaskar.

Gavaskar has come out and said that Venkatesh Iyer can make a comeback into the Indian team if he continues with the way he has been playing, also, citing his all-round abilities giving him some advantage in order to make a comeback.

"I feel his batting and thinking have changed a little this time and for the better. Due to that, I believe he can once again become an India prospect because he bowls as well. He is also a very good fielder. If you are a left-handed middle-order batter in T20 or 50-over cricket and can bowl a few overs as well, it is icing on the cake," said Gavaskar.

The ex-India captain has also differentiated between how the 29-year-old played the last season and how he has gone about his business and improved this season.

"During the last season, he had played for India and was looking slightly overconfident, and was getting out because of that. Yes, I remember that he scored a century against Mumbai. It's not that his season was bad but he was getting out while trying to hit sixes or play big shots soon after his arrival."

The KKR star ended his IPL 2024 campaign with 370 runs in 13 innings at a strike rate of 158.8 while scoring 4 fifties including two in two playoff games against the Sunrisers.
