After the heartbreaking loss in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 Final, things are finally getting back to normalcy, as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is planning to discuss future plans for Team India.

BCCI is planning to sit down with chief selector Ajit Agarkar, and captain Rohit Sharma, and pave a pathway for the next four years, while also discussing the future of the MI captain in white-ball cricket for India.

As reported by the Times of India, Sharma has already communicated with selectors about not being considered for T20Is, however, his ODI plans still remain unknown. With 2024 being the year of the T20 World Cup, the selectors are more focused on the shortest format, than ODI, which will only see a major tournament take place in 2025 i.e. ICC Champions Trophy.

Here's what an BCCI Source said on Rohit Sharma

“Before the ODI World Cup, Rohit had communicated that he is fine not being considered for T20Is. The selectors have been investing heavily in youth in T20Is for the last one year. With the T20 World Cup happening in June next year, they are reluctant to deviate from that strategy.”

India will play two ODIs in South Africa next month, and the selectors will only look into 50-over cricket seriously after the IPL and T20 World Cup.

The 36-year-old had a stellar World Cup with the bat, finishing the tournament as the second-highest run-getter with 597 runs, which include one century and three fifties.
