During India's final league game of the World Cup 2023, Virat Kohli, affectionately known as the ‘King,’ received a rousing round of applause when he walked down the middle at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday.

Given that Virat Kohli has been a member of Royal Challengers Bangalore since the Indian Premier League's (IPL) inception, it was only natural that the energy would be intense. And to add even more noise, Herschelle Gibbs, whom Kohli referred to as his ‘favourite cricketer’ during his Under-19 World Cup campaign, also joined the party when he came in the middle.

The former South African opener, who in the 2007 World Cup in the West Indies hit six sixes in an over against the Netherlands, used X (formerly known as Twitter) to draw fans’ attention. He posted, "In Walks The King," there, and it is understandable why thousands of Kohli's devoted followers joined there as well.

Kohli, however, failed to get to a three-digit mark on his second home. The 35-year-old achieved his 71st ODI fifty, but fell soon after to veteran Roelof van der Merwe.
