Reeling from a crushing loss to Afghanistan, Bangladesh is ready to bounce back as they take on the West Indies in a high-stakes three-match ODI series. After the horrific defeat, the Bangladeshi stars faced massive criticism from the fans.
Ahead of their home series, Bangladesh head coach Phil Simmons sent out a strong message to the team. He urged the players to completely off from social media as it can affect them.
Phil Simmons sends crucial message to team
Facing the Afghanistan side in their last ODI assignment, Bangladesh faced a humiliating whitewash. Struggling against the lethal Afghan attack, Bangladesh failed to secure a single win. The disastrous performance sparked outrage among fans, who greeted the team back home with harsh criticism and even attempted to attack their vehicles.
Before the Tigers take the field against their head coach Phil Simmons gave a stern warning to the side. Commenting on the recent chaos, he urged the players to take a complete break from social media to stay focused.
“Okay. I'm glad you brought it up because, first of all, I don't agree with players having anything to do with social media. It is your right as a person to be on social media, to say what you want on social media. But as an international player, as a national player for Bangladesh, my players should not be on there,” he said.
Bangladesh coach speaks out on Jaker Ali incident
The racial abuse targeting Jaker Ali has been ongoing for some time. During some domestic matches in some venues, the Bangladeshi fans were seen making abusive comments on the Bangladeshi wicketkeeper-batter.
“I would say one thing, it is not nice to bring racial tones into anything to do with players. I don't care where you're from, the racial part of it against Jaker Ali I am disgusted with. That's not nice. But I don't want my players answering anything on social media,” he added.
With both teams gearing up for a fierce showdown, the series opener is set for October 18. After the recent disappointment, the Tigers will be eyeing a stronger bounce back on home soil.
