India A's southpaw, Harsh Dubey showed his all-round brilliance and grabbed his opportunity with both hands against Oman in the final Group B fixture to help the Boys in Blue seal their semi-final spot in the Asia Cup Rising Stars on Tuesday night in Doha.
Upon fielding first after winning the toss, India A suffocated Oman's run-flow throughout the innings and Dubey conceded only 30 runs off his four overs, scalping the wicket of the middle order batter Aryan Bisht by trapping him LBW on a straightened delivery with an angle.
While chasing 138, India lost a couple of quick wickets when the 23-year-old was promoted up the order to steady the ship from 37/2. He did not miss his opportunity and scored an unbeaten 53 off 44 with the help of 7 fours and a six to guide India to a win, with 13 balls left.
"There is a batter in me": Dubey reacts to his all-round brilliance
Earlier this year, Dubey had shown glimpses of the explosiveness in his batting with his blistering 63(30) during Vidarbha vs Karnataka Vijay Hazare Trophy Final, as he tried to chase 349 for his team, although fell short by 36 runs.
Speaking of his ability with the bat in hand, Dubey showed confidence in himself and opened up on the importance of grabbing such opportunities.
"I am very stubborn. I started my cricket as an opening batter — there is still a batter in me. Like always, I was looking to attack and take wickets with the ball and got one. I was not getting opportunities to bat — Jitu bhai [Jitesh Sharma] had promoted me last year during the state games but I could not do well.
He further revealed about the clarity and communication within the team, which made the job easier for him.
"This time, I was determined to do well after the role clarity that was provided. I knew if I stood till the end, I would be able to attack the left-arm spinner or a leg-spinner. The role was to take the match deep and control the chase," he concluded.
Up next, Jitesh Sharma and team will be in action in the semi-final of the tournament on November 21 against the winner of the Bangaldesh A vs Sri Lanka A game on Wednesday.
