Former Indian cricketer Yograj Singh has stated that Arjun Tendulkar should focus more on his batting rather than bowling. He promised to transform him into the world's greatest batter in 6 months if Sachin Tendulkar allowed the kid to train under him.
Arjun Tendulkar’s cricketing journey has been under scrutiny ever since he stepped into the professional arena. As the son of cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar, expectations have always been sky-high.
However, former India cricketer and Yuvraj Singh’s father, Yograj Singh has urged Arjun to drop the role of an all-rounder and focus solely on his batting.
Yograj Singh Urge Arjun Tendulkar To Become Specialist Batter
In an interview with former Rajasthan Royals player Taruwar Kohli on his YouTube channel, Yograj Singh expressed his strong opinion on Arjun’s role in the Mumbai Indians squad. He believes that Arjun Tendulkar is not being utilised effectively and that his batting potential is being overlooked.
"If Arjun Tendulkar comes to me now, I will make him the world's greatest batter in six months. No one knows the potential he has with the bat. He was with me for 12 days, he scored a century in Ranji Trophy debut. Did anybody realise?" Yograj said.
Yograj added that if Sachin Tendulkar allowed Arjun to train under him for six months, he would transform Arjun into the world's greatest batter.
"Goa's team was here. Sachin and Yuvraj told me to take Arjun Tendulkar under my wings. He stayed here with me for 10-12 days. I thought, 'he is such a great batter, kaha isko bowling mein laga rakkha hai?' Why are you wasting him in bowling?' As a batting all-rounder, he will be fine," he added.
Not only that, Goa’s domestic team, where Arjun has been playing, was training under Yograj for a brief period. The former cricketer recalled how Sachin Tendulkar and Yuvraj Singh had requested him to take Arjun under his wing.
After just 10-12 days of training, Arjun went on to score a century on his First-Class debut against Rajasthan in the Ranji Trophy.
Despite his early promise, Arjun’s name was soon distanced from Yograj Singh, which the latter attributes to people not wanting him to receive credit for Arjun’s success.
