After several cricket experts and commentators had their critical say on India's Champions Trophy Squad, Yograj Singh, a former cricketer and father of the iconic ex-Indian player Yuvraj Singh, surprisingly backed the squad selection. Yograj, who is often very peculiar about his opinions, which are far from mainstream ideas, has shown his support in favour of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.

In a recent interview with ANI, former cricketer Yograj Singh praised the decision-making process within the team management, underscoring the significance of retaining experienced players such as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Despite ongoing concerns regarding their recent performances, Yograj emphasised that their seasoned presence remains vital to the team's success.

Yograj Singh Surprises With Unexpected Backing Of Virat and Rohit

The 15-member squad of India for Champions Trophy 2025 was announced on Saturday at a press conference with chief selector Ajit Agarkar and Indian captain Rohit Sharma. In the interview, Yograj spoke in favour of the two Indian stars featuring in the prestigious tournament despite their slump in recent outings.

Backing them after their lean patch, Yograj instills the fact that fans should not forget their contributions in beating Australia previously.

"I want to extend my heartfelt congratulations to the BCCI and the selectors for standing by the team. I've always maintained that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are indispensable to the side. Dropping them would only weaken the team. While we may have faced setbacks in Australia, it's important to remember that we've also defeated them in two series."

Yograj expressed his relief about the stable choices made for the team, sharing that he was initially worried some key players might get left out.

"I was concerned that 5-6 players, including Shubman Gill or Virat Kohli, might face the axe. However, I stood by them, and I believe this decision is the best outcome. I want to congratulate the board, the think tank, and the selectors for their support. Their approach deserves appreciation."

The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is set to kick off from February 19 to March 9. This time around, the tournament is being hosted in a hybrid format, with matches held in both Pakistan and the UAE. India will play all its matches in the UAE, starting with their opener against Bangladesh on February 20. On February 23, India will play the marquee match where Pakistan will be facing them. Their last league match will be against New Zealand on March 2.
