A video clip from the IPL 2025 Eliminator match between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Mumbai Indians (MI) recently went viral on social media, sparking controversy. In the video, GT captain Shubman Gill appeared to ignore a handshake from MI captain Hardik Pandya during the toss. This led to widespread speculation that the two Indian cricket stars were not on good terms.
The moment quickly fueled rumors of an ego clash between the two, especially since fans have been closely watching Shubman Gill’s behaviour ever since he was named captain of the Indian Test team. Many started accusing Gill of being arrogant and disrespectful toward Pandya.
The tension seemed to continue on the field as well. When Shubman Gill got out early in the match, Hardik Pandya was seen celebrating loudly, which added fuel to the rumors of a clash between them.
However, Gill has now responded and put the rumours to rest.
Gill Responds To Viral Video Of Ignoring Pandya
On the evening of May 31, Shubman Gill took to Instagram to share a story featuring a smiling photo of himself with Hardik Pandya. Along with the image, he wrote,
“Nothing but love. (Don’t believe everything you see on the internet) @hardikpandya93.”
This simple but clear message was enough to shut down the controversy. Gill’s post suggests that all is well between him and Pandya and that the viral moment was either misunderstood or taken out of context.
Talking about the match, MI batted first and set a massive target of 229 runs. In response, GT’s chase didn’t start well, Shubman Gill, was dismissed after scoring just 1 run. Sai Sudharsan (80 off 49 balls) and Washington Sundar (48 off 24 balls) gave a strong fight but Gujarat Titans fell short by 20 runs, ending their IPL 2025 journey.
Mumbai Indians advanced to the second qualifier, where they will face Punjab Kings for a place in the final.
