Excitement is palpable as the World Cup 2023 approaches, with cricket enthusiasts eagerly awaiting the showdown. In the lead-up to the tournament, former players and experts are weighing in with their predictions, adding to the anticipation surrounding the event. Irfan Pathan, in particular, has shared his insights, fueling the buzz even further.

The former Indian all-rounder, much like every patriot from the cricket-crazy nation, believes Team India will make it to the finals of the forthcoming cricketing carnival. However, Pathan has a surprise pick as India’s opponent, one he recently mentioned upon being asked to give his predictions for the imminent title-clash.

Irfan Pathan hoping for a rare showdown in final

Irfan Pathan, one of the expert panelists for the Star Sports Network, believes hosts India will be one of the sides to march into the final of the 2023 World Cup. He predicted the same during a recent interaction with the network, where he was asked to give his take on two possible finalists for the tournament.

He further stated that he would love to see India taking on South Africa at the title-clash. Irfan Pathan said:

“I would love to see a final between India and South Africa”

Irfan Pathan’s prediction of an India vs. South Africa final is certainly an ambitious one, considering the latter of the two has never advanced beyond the semi-finals in any of their World Cup appearances throughout history.

Regardless, the Proteas are slated to go up against Sri Lanka to commence their tournament campaign on October 7. Their much-awaited match-up will be hosted by the iconic Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

Hosts India, on the other hand, will be facing prominent rivals and sixth-title chasers Australia in their opening game on October 8 in Chennai.
