In once-a-lifetime innings, Australia's Glenn Maxwell produced unarguably the best One-Day International (ODI) knocks against Afghanistan in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India.

With Australia trotting at 91 for seven, Maxwell battled cramps, body pain, and hostile bowling and singlehandedly took his side over the finish line, scoring a breathtaking 201* at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium on November 8.

Ahead of Australia's semi-final clash against South Africa on Thursday at Eden Gardens, Maxwell opened up about his phenomenal innings, stating how he believed in himself and helped his side chase down 292.

Speaking to Fox Cricket, Maxwell, who scored 201* from 128 balls, which included 21 fours and ten sixes, explained how the batter remained confident in his abilities to pull off the chase and slam a double hundred.

Here's what Maxwell said

"I knew I had two balls in that over. So I thought if I don’t quite get the ball here, I’ll probably get the last one." I was so calm at the start of that over. I’d just had a drink, towelled myself down, given my helmet away. Patty’s like, ‘What are you thinking this over’ and I’m like, ‘Don’t worry, it’s over this over. Don’t worry’.

It may sound arrogant and over confident, but because I knew I had the short boundary, because I knew Mujeeb (Ur Rahman). We’ve played against and with each other. I’ve spent a whole IPL training with him, having little contests and spending a lot of time with him. And I’d faced most of his overs he’d bowled at that stage. I just felt like, ‘I’ve got this. I’ve got the short boundary. I know I don’t have to hit it out of the middle to get a six. I was just confident. I knew if I had two or three balls in the slot I’d be able to get them.”

The RCB player further revealed how he only entertained the idea of pulling off the win for Australia somewhere near the 40th over.
