‘I Was Crying’- GT's New Star Robin Minz’ Mother Reacts To Son’s IPL 2024 Auction Bid

Robin Minz stunned one-and-all at the IPL 2024 auction on December 19 as the Jharkhand-based youngster was roped in by the Gujarat Titans franchise for a staggering sum of Rs.3.6 crore. The 21-year-old uncapped player was involved in an intense bidding war between the Titans and Mumbai Indians franchises during the accelerated round at the auction, resulting in the former acquiring his services.
Reacting to Robin’s IPL 2024 windfall, his mother Elis Minz has recalled her first interaction with son after he landed his maiden IPL gig for next year’s much-awaited season.

Elis Minz, mother of Robin Minz, has recalled her first conversation with her son after the youngster generated an intense bidding war between franchises to land at Gujarat Titans at the IPL 2024 auction. A seemingly emotional Elis claimed that she cried while congratulating her son, and stated that she was initially unable to express her happiness through words. While speaking with the ANI, Robin Minz’ mother said:
“I was crying when I talked to him and got to know...he was telling me not to cry. I congratulated him and said that he made us reach at such a level...We are very happy, I can't even express my happiness.”
As per Robin Minz’ coach Asif Haque from Sonnet Cricket Club, the 21-year-old holds much potential with the bat and is often described as the “Chris Gayle of Ranchi” due to his built and six-hitting abilities.
While Robin is yet to play a single match for Jharkhand’s domestic team, he has participated for Jharkhand’s Under-19 and Under-25 levels in junior tournaments. The wicketkeeper-batter also travelled to the United Kingdom in August 2023 with the talent scouts of Mumbai Indians.
Mumbai Indians showed a keen interest in acquiring the youngster from the outset at the IPL 2024 auction, with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) also joining in the race only for him to land at the Gujarat Titans base for his maiden IPL gig.
