The excitement is mounting as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to announce India’s squad for World Cup 2023 on September 3, according to a report by India Today.

BCCI to reveal India's provisional World Cup squad on September 3

This important Indian squad announcement is strategically placed just two days before the provisional squad submission deadline and a day after India's electrifying Asia Cup face-off against Pakistan in Kandy.

Amid this packed schedule, Team India will lock horns with Australia in a 3-match ODI series from September 21 to 27, keeping the momentum alive leading into World Cup 2023.

However, the BCCI has kept its cards close to its chest, reserving the right to revise the provisional squad until September 28, a week before the World Cup commences in Ahmedabad.

One of the top concerns dominating discussions is KL Rahul's fitness. Sanju Samson, recently roped in as a safeguard for Rahul for Asia Cup 2023, is proof of the looming uncertainties. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar shed light on Rahul's recent setback while confirming Shreyas Iyer's return post-injury.

Despite initial apprehensions regarding Rahul's participation in the Asia Cup clash against Pakistan, recent reports hint at his inclusion in the team for the clash against Pakistan, and it will be intriguing to see if the wicketkeeper-batter wins this race against time.

On the other hand, Tilak Varma, who impressed with his T20I performance against West Indies, also earned his stripes, making it to the Asia Cup 2023 squad. However, whether he will get the nod against Pakistan remains in the balance.

Consistent performers Suryakumar Yadav, Prasidh Krishna, and Jasprit Bumrah have also cemented their positions, especially with Yadav battling through a challenging phase and the latter duo making a robust return post-injuries.

The Alur training camp has been going on in full swing. Rahul's batting sessions have caught significant attention, while young stumper Ishan Kishan is seen diligently refining his wicket-keeping skills under the watchful eyes of fielding coach T Dilip.

With a dearth of competitive matches left before the marquee event, it's a tense wait to see who will secure a spot in India's provisional World Cup squad.
