After wrapping up the five-match T20I series against Australia on high, it's time for Team India to shift their focus to red-ball cricket. With the first Test against South Africa set for November 14, Shubman Gill and the squad gear up for a new set of challenges.
Ahead of stepping into the Test series, Team India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir has already set his eyes on the upcoming T20 World Cup. In a recent interview, he revealed his determined approach and clear mindset as India gears up for the global challenge.
Gambhir stands firm on values with a no-nonsense approach
After taking on the reins from Rahul Dravid, Gautam Gambhir’s journey as Team India’s head coach has not been easy, as he has faced harsh criticism regarding his choices. But the former Indian has never reflected on that. After Team India lost the three-match ODI series against the Aussies, the criticism became harsher.
In his recent interview with the BCCI, Gambhir emphasized his core values, making it clear that he expects full commitment from every player. For him, there’s simply no room to celebrate a defeat.
“As a nation, and as individuals, we should never celebrate a series loss,” he said in the teaser of the video.
Gambhir sets his sights on a successful T20 World Cup campaign
In the recently ended five-match T20I series against Australia, Team India ended the series with a 2-1 victory. After he joined the side as head coach, dressing room atmosphere created massive buzz. In the recent interaction, he reflected on that.
“It has been a very transparent dressing room, it has been a very honest dressing room, and that is how we want this dressing room to be," he said.
With the T20 World Cup approaching, Gautam Gambhir admitted the team still needs polishing. He made it clear that the road to a “perfect” World Cup campaign is long and demands hard work ahead.
"I think we still aren’t where we want to be come the T20 World Cup. Hopefully, guys know the importance of being fit. We still have three months to be where we want to be,” Gambhir added.
With three months still left before the T20 World Cup, India now shifts gears to face South Africa in a Test series starting November 14. After a successful series win against West Indies, Team India will try hard to continue their red-ball success on their home soil.
