Faruque Ahmed suffers cardiac arrest

On November 9, Bangladesh cricket fans faced a massive blow as former Bangladesh star and current Bangladesh Cricket Board vice-president Faruque Ahmed suffered a cardiac arrest. As per reports, the star was suffering from severe chest pain and was taken to the hospital on Sunday afternoon.

Cricbuzz's reports revealed a blockage in one of his arteries, confirmed after an angiogram. In the evening, the stent was implanted successfully, and as per reports, he is stable but currently in CCU. Reports confirmed that he will be staying under observation for the next few days.

Speaking to the Daily Sun, a BCB source confirmed the news. The source said, “He was feeling unwell since last night. This afternoon, he was taken to hospital. After an angiogram, a blockage was found in his heart, and doctors inserted a ring in the evening. Now he is in the CCU.”

Faruque’s glorious journey in Bangladesh cricket

Representing the nation is every cricketer’s dream, but only a few go on to become the sport’s identity for their country. Faruque Ahmed was one of those rare figures who helped shape and popularize cricket in Bangladesh. Representing the nation from 1984-1999, he played seven ODIs and scored 105 runs.

Even after his retirement, he served the country as a national selector. Last year, he started his second innings as BCB’s interim President, succeeding Nazmul Hasan. In October 2024, he became BCB’s vice-president and is currently continuing the role.
