MS Dhoni took the blame for CSK's loss [Source: @mufaddal_vohra/x.com]
Bengaluru served up a last-over heart-stopper on May 3 as Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) edged past Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by just 2 runs in a high-scoring thriller. But what grabbed headlines after the dust settled was MS Dhoni’s brutally honest post-match confession and it’s not often you hear the legendary skipper say, “I’ll take the blame.”
Dhoni’s Honest Confession Breaks CSK Fans’ Hearts
Speaking at the post-match presentation, MS Dhoni didn’t hide behind excuses. In fact, he put the blame squarely on himself. He said:
“Well I think when I went to bat and looking at the equation then, I feel I should have converted couple of more shots which could have helped us. I would take the blame for it.”
It is rare to see a skipper with such stature own up like that but that’s what separates Dhoni from the rest. No finger-pointing, no ifs and buts, just accountability.
RCB Rode On Kohli’s Class And Shepherd’s Storm
RCB batted first and rode on some classic Virat Kohli flair (62 off 33) and a 14-ball madness from Romario Shepherd, who smoked 53* that sent Chinnaswamy into orbit. The hosts ended with 213/5, setting a huge 214-run target.
Ayush Mhatre And Jadeja Almost Pulled Off A Heist
Chennai didn’t go down without a fight. Ayush Mhatre was batting like he was possessed. The 17-year-old hammered 94 off just 48 balls. Ravindra Jadeja gave it a proper go too with 77* off 45. Dewald Brevis, who came in after Mhatre's wicket, was dismissed for a golden duck post which the CSK skipper arrived.
Dhoni Fails To Finish
The crowd erupted when MS Dhoni walked out to bat. The match was hanging by a thread. A couple of big hits, and it would’ve been another MS special. But it wasn’t meant to be. He managed just 12 off 8 balls, got trapped LBW by Yash Dayal and the match swung back to RCB. CSK were within touching distance, needing just 6 off 3 but fell agonizingly short.
Meanwhile, with this loss, CSK has now lost nine matches out of their 11 and are already out of the playoffs race. They will next host Rajasthan Royals on Monday, May 12.
