In the ongoing IPL 2025 match between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, the hosts, batting first, put 213 runs on the board. In reply, CSK lost two wickets within the powerplay, but Ayush Mhatre stole the limelight as the 17-year-old took on Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
Bhuvi, who gave just 5 runs in his first over, returned for his second, but Ayush Mhatre took on the India star. He fetched 26 runs off the over, which featured five fours and a solitary six. Mhatre started off with a four down the ground and followed it up with a another boundary over the bowler's head.
It was the hat-trick of four on the 3rd ball and the CSK fans stood on their feat when Mhatre took the aerial route on the 4th ball and smoked one over the long-on for a maximum. It was not the end as Mhatre smashed two more boundaries off the last two balls of the over to collect 26 runs off the over. Watch the batting here.
Ayush Mhatre Shines On His Debut Stint With CSK
It is worth noting that CSK were interested in the 17-year-old before the start of the tournament and had also called Ayush for a trial. However, the Men in Yellow didn't show interest in him during the auction. However, they were forced to make a change as CSK's regular skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out of the tournament mid-season.
It prompted CSK to bring in Mhatre. Since his arrival, the right-hand batter has played four matches and scored 119 runs in four innings, averaging 39.67. He also brought up his maiden IPL fifty against RCB.
Talking about the ongoing match, at the time of writing this article, CSK are 88/2 after 9 overs and still require 126 runs to win off 66 balls.
