Rohit Sharma took time out from the somber and the bitter disappointment experienced since losing the ICC World Cup 2023 final to express gratitude towards loyal Indian cricket fans for their great support in his team's campaign.

Undergoing an extended break since suffering the most painstaking setback of his career with the Ahmedabad loss against Australia, Rohit chose to focus on the positives and relished the fan support throughout Men in Blue's journey towards the summit clash.

Retrospectively the cause of it becoming a potentially traumatic and scaring defeat for this generation of Indian cricket followers, the Indian team underwent a mighty juggernaut, which nailed nine consecutive victories during the league stage and stormed past New Zealand in the semifinal.

The great run leading into the final had raised the nation's hopes to such a high degree that everyone believed this was India's best possible chance to reclaim the coveted World Cup. It wasn't to be as Rohit's men faltered at the last hurdle and stood in absolute shock and disbelief on the night of the final.

Rohit Thanks Fans Despite World Cup Final Setback

Speaking to his Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Mumbai Indians (MI) in his first interview since undergoing post-match presentation ceremony at the World Cup final, Rohit talked about how the pain and ecstasy experienced after the defeat still lingers hard. But then opted to take time out to appreciate the Indian team fans for showering his men with love and support during the pinnacle event.

Rohit also said he feels "proud" of his troops for sticking together in the journey and playing a tremendous brand of cricket for the best part of 1.5 months in their collective desire to grab hold of that trophy.

"If I look on the other side of it, I am really proud of the team. How we played was simply outstanding. You don't get to play like that in every World Cup," Rohit Sharma said.

"I am sure that how we played at least up until the final, it would have given people a lot of joy. After that final, it was very hard to get back, and I wanted to move on which is why I decided I needed to go somewhere and get my mind out of this."

"But then, wherever I was, I realised people were coming to me and appreciating our effort. I feel for all of them. Along with us, they were also dreaming of lifting the World Cup. There was so much support from everyone throughout the World Cup," he added.
