India embarks on a new chapter in Test cricket under young captain Shubman Gill, starting their five-match series against England at Headingley. At just 25, Gill steps into the significant void left by the recent retirements of stalwarts Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, signalling a major generational shift for the team. His first major challenge begins tomorrow.

Shubman Gill Reveals His Advisors!

Recently, in an exclusive interview with Times Of India and as per TOI journalist Sahil Malhotra, Gill admitted meeting Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli during the IPL to get tips for English soil.

"I met both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in the IPL. They shared their experiences of England and I spoke to them during the IPL," Gill said.

Gill also confirmed a key batting change, revealing he will occupy the crucial No. 4 position previously held by Kohli.

"After Virat bhai retired, me and GG bhai (Gautam Gambhir) had a discussion about me batting at that number," he stated.

Addressing the immense responsibility, Gill called leading India the pinnacle of achievement. "Captaining the country is the biggest honour anyone can get. It is the biggest honour anyone can get."

When questioned about India's playing style under his leadership in this WTC cycle, Gill offered a teasing glimpse. "You have to wait till August to see what kind of brand we will play," he said with a smile, suggesting an evolving team identity.

Shubman Gill Aims To Be The Best!

Personally ambitious, Shubman Gill set a clear target for the series too. He also threw his ambitions out in the open ahead of the series.

"I want to be the best batter in the series, that’s what I am looking at," Gill concluded.

Speaking of being a batter overseas, Shubman Gill's records are not very impressive. In his 21 innings across SENA countries, he averages only 25.7 with 20 dismissals and only two half-centuries while boasting 514 runs.
