On Tuesday, India middle-order batter Suryakumar Yadav played a match-winning knock to keep India alive in the five-match T20I series against West Indies.

The stylish right-handed batter whacked 83 runs off just 44 balls to help India chase down a 169-run target with consummate ease at Providence Stadium in Guyana.

While Suryakumar Yadav has been a force to be reckoned with in T20s, his journey in ODIs has been a struggle. Despite extensive opportunities and unwavering backing from the management, Yadav is yet to replicate his T20 success in the 50-over format.

On being asked about the same in the post-match conference after the third T20, the batter conceded that he is aware of his subpar form in the ODIs and conveyed his commitment to working on his shortcomings.

'I know my ODI numbers are very bad'- Suryakumar Yadav

“If I am honest with myself, I know that my ODI numbers are very bad. I have no shame in admitting that because it is more important to figure out how to better it. So, what Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid told me was that I do not play this format very often, so I need to practice more," Yadav said.

Furthermore, the swashbuckling batter revealed that both coach Rahul Dravid and captain Rohit Sharma have supported him in the ODIs, giving him the freedom to play his natural game.

"They asked me to spend some time in the crease and think about how I can be useful for the team in the last 10-15 overs. They want me to play 45-50 balls in a match, if I bat in the last 15-18 overs and they have given me the freedom of how I want to go about it," he added.

With this win, India have managed to keep themselves breathing in the five-match series with two games yet to be played.
