It is safe to say that Virat Kohli is one of the most celebrated cricketers in the world. His fan following goes beyond millions and the love he receives from his fans is unimaginable and immeasurable.

But as seen numerous times, the fanbase of idols often becomes too toxic to handle and that is exactly what happened with Simon Doull. Legendary New Zealand cricketer received death threats when he made passing remarks on Virat Kohli's strike rate during IPL 2024 season.

In a recent conversation with Dinesh Karthik on Cricbuzz, Doull revealed that while he has said numerous good things about the right-hand batter, but his one negative remark has resulted in people openly threatening his life. He expressed:

"He's too good to worry about what if he gets out. He's too good a player, and that was always my point around him. I said a thousand great things about Virat Kohli, but I say one thing that might be slightly negative or construed to be negative, I get death threats."

However, this is not the first time that a foreign cricketer has criticised him. Numerous Indian greats have also chipped in their two cents on his strike rate and grilled him over it. In a post-match interview, Virat Kohli did address his critiques and resolved their queries/concerns by stating:

"All people who talk about strike-rates and me not playing spin well, talk about these things (stats). It's just about doing my job. They can talk anything they want to. It's kind of muscle memory for me now."

Nevertheless, Kohli received the Orange Cap this season for ammassing 741 runs from 15 innings at a strike rate of 154.70. He smashed 1 century along with five half-centuries during the course of the tournament.
