'I Don't See...', Ex-RCB Star Speaks On Rohit & Kohli's Participation In T20 WC 2024

Former Indian cricketer Parthiv Patel views the ongoing three-match T20I series against Afghanistan not as a selection trial for the T20 World Cup but as a confirmation that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are part of India's World Cup plans.

Both Rohit and Virat, after more than a year away from T20 cricket, made their return to the format in the Afghanistan series.

Rohit is yet to open his account, having recorded two ducks in the first two games of the series. Conversely, Kohli was absent for the first match, made a comeback in the second, and smashed a quick-fire 29 runs from 16 deliveries. India convincingly chased the targets in both matches, achieving six-wicket victories on each occasion.

The ex-Royal Challengers Bangalore wicket-keeper batter believes the involvement of Rohit and Kohli in the series implies they are set for the T20 World Cup.

Patel also feels that the performances in this series are unlikely to impact the selection decisions for such stalwart players.

“I don’t see this series as a selection series for the World Cup. I don’t think any player performing or not will impact their chances of World Cup selection, especially when you are talking about Rohit Sharma or Virat Kohli. Once you have picked them for the series, it means they are going for the World Cup,"  said Parthiv Patel as quoted from JioCinema.

While Rohit will aim to regain his form and make a big score in the last T20I against Afghanistan, Kohli will look to continue his fine form with the bat and lighten up his second home, Bengaluru. The T20 World Cup is India's next major assignment, and the ongoing series against Afghanistan serves as the team's final preparation before the tournament.

Having already taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series, Team India is now looking to fine-tune its strategies and player combinations. The T20 World Cup, co-hosted by the USA and the West Indies, holds significance for India, especially after falling short in the ODI World Cup. The Men in Blue are placed in Group A alongside Pakistan, Ireland, hosts USA, and Canada.
