India scripted history in England as the Shubman Gill-led side registered a stunning win in the fifth Test to level the series 2-2. It was a stunning Day 5 at the Oval, where the visitors picked up four wickets and didn't allow the Three Lions to chase 36 runs to seal the series.

Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna were on song as the former took a five-wicket haul, while the latter finished the innings with three wickets. The celebrations are far from over, even five days after the win.

Gill And Gambhir Stick To Plan On Day 5 Of 5th Test

In the latest events, a report published by Jagran and quoted by Hindustan Times, it revealed that before the fifth day, match referee Jeff Crowe had warned India that they were six overs behind the scheduled time and would dock four points after the match because of slow over-rate.

The referee had asked the Indian team to opt for spinners to be back on track, but the report reveals that Gill and Gambhir refused to bow down to the warning and risked losing WTC points for a win.

“I don't care about the over rate. If we lose four points, so be it. We are playing to win," Gambhir remarked as quoted by Hindustan Times.

Gambhir's remarks were backed by Gill, who too was not in favour to bring in spinners. The decision turned out to be gold as India registered a win in the first session, and no points were docked after the win.

India Jumps To 3rd On The WTC Standings

India’s miraculous six-run victory at Kennington Oval helped them earn crucial WTC points and move up to number three in the standings. Meanwhile, England slipped to fourth place, recording a PCT of 43.33 with the heartbreaking defeat.

India's next Test assignment will be against West Indies, but the Shubman Gill-led side are most likely to miss Rishabh Pant's services because of injury.
