Ahead of the dead rubber third ODI clash between India and Australia, Mitchell Starc has provided an important update on his injuries. The pace bowling spearhead is optimistic about his recovery and potential participation in the Rajkot ODI. He conveyed that his shoulder feels considerably improved, and his groin injury has also progressed positively due to the extended recovery period.

Starc had been sidelined for the initial two ODIs in the ongoing three-match series against India due to his persistent injury concerns. However, the final ODI in Rajkot presents a strong possibility for his return to the playing eleven.

The left-arm fast bowler has been grappling with injuries for an extended period. His troubles began with a left shoulder injury during the 2023 Ashes series in July, followed by a groin injury that kept him out of the subsequent five-match series against South Africa, which Australia lost 3-2.

Here's what Starc said about his injury

”That’s obviously the priority. Hopefully I get a roll out in game three, and if not, we’ve got those two warm-up games (in Thiruvananthapuram on September 30 and Hyderabad on October 3),” Starc was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au.

Starc explained that certain issues came to light after the Ashes series, impacting his recovery timeline. While the shoulder had been progressing well since the Ashes, ensuring his readiness for the upcoming World Cup without any compromises remained essential.

”There was a few things going on during the Ashes, which we found out post-Ashes. There was a little bit going on in the (groin) region … so that’s obviously lengthened the recovery time. The shoulder has been good since the Ashes; it’s just making sure that I was ready to go for the World Cup and not compromising that,” added Starc.

Before the commencement of the three-match series, Australian captain Pat Cummins had expressed optimism about Starc's availability for the final ODI in Rajkot.

Unfortunately, the series has not unfolded as the Aussies would have hoped, with back-to-back losses and only one match remaining.
