India Women have created history at the 19th Asian Games at Hangzhou by winning the gold medal in an emphatic fashion with a win over Sri Lanka Women.  The India Women's cricket team were playing Asian Games for the first time and have emerged victorious, staying true to their pre-tournament billing.

Talking about the final, Harmanpreet Kaur, the Indian skipper won the toss and decided to bat first on a tricky pitch.  India lost Shafali Verma early but Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues steadied the ship for India and played crucial knocks under pressure to take India to a competitive total of 117. In reply, Sri Lanka never got going in the chase and ended up losing the game by 19 runs.

It is India's second gold in this Asian Games edition and surely a proud moment for the whole country. Also, India were without their regular skipper Harmanpreet Kaur before the final, owing to her two-match ban, but were never threatened in the competition as they hammered Bangladesh in the semis and were quite dominating in the game against Malaysia that was washed out.

India Women are undoubtedly the best team in Asia and won the Women's Asia Cup as well in 2022.
