The countdown for ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 has started, and India will kick off their preparations for the marquee event when they meet West Indies in a three-match ODI series, which starts today in Barbados.

India like-many other teams have several issues to solve, namely its batting order, which has several openers and wicket-keepers fighting for few slots. One of the most hotly-contested spots in India's white-ball side is the wicket-keeper position with Rishabh Pant ruled out of CWC 2023.

KL Rahul, Sanju Samson, and Ishan Kishan are the contenders in play, with the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) skipper being a front-runner.

Out of the aforementioned keepers, former India batter Aakash Chopra has made reservations about Kishan's place in the ODIs, who recently also made his Test debut for India in West Indies.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, the former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) player explained that Kishan's place in the side depends on the balance of Team India and not his own performances.

Here's what Chopra said

“If Rahul remains injured, Sanju Samson will come in. Because there's a place in the middle order but no space in the opening order. Can Ishan Kishan play in the middle order? He might, but you haven't played him there yet. I think Ishan's place is not dependent on his performance. It's dependent on what the balance of the team is."

The 25-year-old has had a mixed start to his ODI career, slamming 510 runs in 14 matches, which includes three fifties and one double-century.

It will be interesting to see if Rohit Sharma and Co. play Kishan in the ODIs against the Windies, despite Samson's availability.
