'Cannot Play Fast Every Day, Unless...': Ishan Kishan Opines On England's Bazball

England's Bazball approach has created quite a debate in the cricketing circles around the world, and more so after Ben Stokes' team performance in the ongoing Ashes 2023, in which Australia have managed to retain the coveted urn, leading the series 2-1, after the Manchester Test ended in a draw.

India during the second and final Test at Trinidad against West Indies, displayed their own brand of aggressive cricket on Day 4, with Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan, going all out.

Kishan, who slammed his maiden Test fifty in just his second appearance for India, spoke about BazBall after the conclusion of the Test, which sadly ended in a draw after persistent rain on Day 5.

As quoted by Indian Express, the Mumbai Indians wicket-keeper batter explained how BazBall is mostly viable on flat pitches, and one cannot apply that play style across every Test.

Here's what Kishan said

“It is not possible that you can play that fast everyday, it depends upon the situation also. England are batting quickly but you need to see on what kind of pitches they are playing, mostly where we play it is not easy to bat because there is a turn and bounce."

"If the wicket is flat, where you can score quickly, and the need of the team is to get runs quickly, then I think you can take on that action. I don’t think it is necessary that we must play in an aggressive manner in every match, but whenever there will be a need of playing attacking cricket, we have got enough firepower’s in our ranks. I don’t think you can always play attacking shots in Test cricket."

England Test head coach Brendon McCullum and skipper Ben Stokes have managed to revive the red-ball format in their nation, following their new-found ultra-aggressive approach. Since the duo took over last year, England have won 12 out of 17 Tests, while losing four and drawing one.

Meanwhile, Kishan will look to maintain his form in the upcoming three-match One-Day International (ODI) series against West Indies starting Thursday.
