The five-match Test series between England and India ended up on a thrilling note as Shubman Gill and Co.’s gritty fight ended the series in a draw. Among all the heroics of the visitors, the cricket world discovered a whole different version of KL Rahul.

As the Indian wicketkeeper-batter is often overlooked but former England cricketer Moeen Ali hailed his brilliance. In a recent interaction, Moeen lauded his impact and crucial contributions during the Test series.

Moeen Ali Calls KL Rahul The Unsung Star Of The Test Series

After Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s Test exit, Team India travelled to England for a five-match Test series, which ended in a draw. After taking the reins, Shubman Gill led the side from the front and ended up being the highest run scorer. Among this, KL Rahul’s impactful innings can’t go unnoticed.

Scoring 532 runs in five Tests, Rahul scored two centuries and two half-centuries. His gritty innings of 90 runs ended the Manchester Test on a thrilling draw. Speaking on the Wicket Podcast, former England star Moeen Ali praised Rahul’s underappreciated brilliance, calling him one of the 'best players in the world'.

“I think people don’t realise how good someone like KL Rahul is, particularly in opening the batting. He was brilliant last series as well in England, and he is brilliant again this series. I actually think Shubman scored the most runs and was outstanding, but I thought KL’s role within the side was probably the best I have seen him play over the years,” he said.

“He is such a good player, and I genuinely believe that he’s one of the best players in the world, and I have said that for a while. Sometimes I just feel he doesn’t take the handbrake off, just free up a bit more, but generally I would say he’s one of the best players in the world,” he added.

A Dream Test Series For KL Rahul

Since making his Test debut in 2014, KL Rahul has featured in numerous series, but his recent outing against England stands out as the finest of his red-ball career. Playing an exceptional knock of 137 runs in the first Test, he continued his brilliance throughout the series.

From shifting gears when it mattered most to raising his bat with authority, the Indian wicketkeeper-batter delivered it all. In the fourth Test, he became the second Asian opener to score 500 runs in a Test series in England. With him, Team India find their most dependable opener.
