Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) trounced RCB by 42 runs in Lucknow in match 65 of the IPL 2025 season. Batting first, the ‘Orange Army’ accrued 231-6 from 20 overs, with out-of-form batter Ishan Kishan blasting 94 unbeaten runs off just 48 deliveries.
The innings marked Ishan’s only second fifty-plus score of the tournament, and his first since cracking a match-winning hundred against Rajasthan Royals back on March 23. With several fans and cricket experts predicting Ishan Kishan to be released by the SRH franchise following IPL 2025, former head coach Tom Moody believes the blistering wicketkeeper-batter has done just about enough to get retained ahead of next year’s IPL.
Tom Moody makes huge Ishan Kishan prediction
While speaking on ESPNCricinfo, former SRH coach Tom Moody claimed that struggling wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan was perhaps under a “lot of pressure” heading into the RCB game in Lucknow. He said:
“He was under a lot of pressure going into this game. He would have felt the fact that he has had a poor season even though he started very well. We were talking about that and you can guarantee [that] around the franchise, they were probably talking about it: do we keep him, do we retain him, what do we do, how do we go about it?”
Tom Moody also added that with all the talks about Ishan Kishan getting potentially released by the SRH franchise, he has now done just about enough to get retained. He added:
“I think he's made it very clear today that he is being retained, if there was any doubt. The composure stood out to me. And just his continued braveness to take the game on. Obviously helped because it was happening at the other end as well.”
Ishan Kishan has aggregated 325 runs in 12 innings of the IPL 2025 season at an average of 36.11 and at a strike rate of 153.30. However, he scored 200 of those runs from just two innings, doing so with a 106 against Rajasthan Royals and with his recent 94* against RCB.
Ishan Kishan, along with the rest of his SRH colleagues, will now face KKR in their final league game on May 25.
