Rohit Sharma’s participation in the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup 2027 remains a topic of speculation, but former cricketer Mohammad Kaif has differing views on it. Now that Rohit is no longer the captain of the Indian team, his fans and cricket pundits believe that he might not be a part of the World Cup 2027.

Age and fitness may be significant factors here, as the right-handed batter is now 38 years old. Moreover, the selectors will also keep a close eye on his performance. Despite being fit, several other factors might lead to Rohit’s snub from the World Cup squad.

Mohammad Kaif confident about Rohit Sharma’s inclusion in World Cup 2027 squad

India’s former player, Mohammad Kaif, spoke about Rohit Sharma during a live session on YouTube. He mentioned the player’s capability to score runs consistently, which will help cement his place in the World Cup squad. Moreover, Rohit brings a lot of experience, and a player like him will be invaluable during an ICC event, which is another reason why the selectors will find it challenging to keep him out of the team.

“He will definitely play, boss. Look, the captaincy may have been taken away from him, but I believe that as an opener, Rohit Sharma will do his job. You need an experienced batter in the side. You can’t go to South Africa, where the World Cup will be played, with an entirely young team. Sometimes in those seaming conditions, the ball moves a lot and the pitches are bouncy. If you take only new players there, they’ll get exposed,” said Mohammad Kaif.

I believe Rohit Sharma will perform even better: Mohammad Kaif

Mohammad Kaif has shown his confidence in the former Indian captain in terms of performance. Rohit Sharma, known for his confident batting display as an opener, has played on all kinds of pitches and is familiar with the spin and bounce that these pitches offer. Hence, Kaif believes that the right-handed batter will perform ‘better’ in the upcoming matches.

"That’s why I feel you need a player who can handle the bounce, who can pull and cut the rising deliveries just like Rohit Sharma does. On those kinds of pitches, I believe Rohit Sharma will perform even better. His batting style as an opener suits such conditions perfectly. He plays the rising ball, the one that bounces from the front, extremely well. Among all the players you can name, Rohit Sharma is the only one who handles that rising delivery so effectively,” he added.

Rohit will next be seen in action against the Australian side in an ODI series, starting on October 19.
