The thrilling run of the Champions Trophy has ended as Team India lifted their third Champions Trophy title after 2013. As the ICC events are incomplete without the India-Pakistan Rivalry, fans enjoyed another chapter of the rivalry in the recently concluded tournament.

After Team India registered a dominating victory over the Men in Green in this tournament, Gavaskar made a bold claim over Pakistan, saying they couldn’t even beat India’s B Team. Days later, former skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq fired back with a sharp response, reigniting the debate.

Inzamam Ul Haq’s Jab At Gavaskar’s Claim

In the recently ended edition of the Champions Trophy, the cricket world experienced a dull show at the India-Pakistan match as Team India registered a dominating win over the Men in Green. Following the dominant win, former Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar didn’t hold back, boldly claiming that Pakistan couldn’t even defeat India’s B team.

The India-Pakistan rivalry is also  entertaining off the field just as on the field. After Gavaskar’s bold remark sparked controversy, former Pakistan skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq hit back with a sharp response, keeping the debate alive.

“India won the match, they played well but Mr. Gavaskar should also take a look at stats. He once fled Sharjah to escape from playing against Pakistan. He is older than us; he is our senior. We greatly respect him, but you should not speak about a country like that. Sure, you have the right to praise your team as much as you want, but commenting like this on other teams is in bad taste.” Inzamam said.

Inzamam Accuses Gavaskar Of Damaging His Own Legacy

The India-Pakistan rivalry has long been a spectacle, delivering unforgettable moments in bilateral series and ICC events. But in recent years, the rivalry lost its thrills as Team India showcased their domination in almost every match. Amid this shift, Inzamam-ul-Haq fired back at Sunil Gavaskar, claiming his controversial remark about Pakistan is tarnishing his own legacy.

“Tell him to look at stats, and he'll know where Pakistan is. I am deeply hurt that he gave such a statement. He was a great, respectful cricketer, but by making such comments, he is only demeaning his legacy. He should control his tongue,” he added.

Hosting an ICC event after 29 years, Pakistan’s campaign turned into a nightmare. After starting the campaign with a defeat against the Kiwis, they failed to secure a single win and were knocked out from the group stage. The Champions Trophy 2025 became a huge disappointment for them.
