In a significant development, two bookies were arrested by Delhi Crime Branch for involvement in illegal betting on the ongoing Champions Trophy 2025. The two individuals, named Parveen Kochhar and Sanjeev Kumar, were racking up bets ahead of the high-octane semi-final clash between India and Australia on Tuesday, March 4.

The arrests, made by law enforcement following a tip-off received by Sub-Inspector Anuj Kumar, exposed an organized betting syndicate led by Parveen. A raid was conducted by a team of NDR and Crime Branch in Sector 23, Dwarka after an investigation revealed that the two men were going to take bets on the India vs Australia game as well.

Multiple Devices And Records Seized From Accused

Following the raid the police revealed that the two accused were found live betting with various electronic devices and objects like two laptops, 25 mobile phones, one LED Smart TV, two notepads, two ball pens, one wooden box suitcase and two Sony recorders.

Moreover, after the interrogation, the police also found that the accused used two methods to operate the betting racket, namely Online Betting via Master ID, where Parveen, the mastermind of the syndicate, purchased a Master ID from a betting website and created Super Master ID to sell them as betting IDs to players.

Secondly, they used the method of Offline Betting via Direct calls where the accused were contacted by players to place bets on live matches based on fluctuation rates. In addition, it was also revealed that the syndicate had been operating for the past two years with transactions going up to Rs 1.5 lakh on every matchday with profits and losses differing between Rs 30,000 to 40,000.

Illegal Betting Continues To Plague Indian Sports

With cricket being a religion in India, betting on matches has become a money-making industry. Parveen Kochhar, who coordinated with bookies from different regions, started doing illegal betting for quick financial gains. He has studied up to 10th standard and used to own a factory in Mundka before entering in this field.

As authorities crack down on yet another illegal betting operation, it serves as a reminder for us of how stricter laws and enforcement is the need of the hour. Despite existing regulations, there are many loopholes in the system which raises a huge concern about the integrity of the sport and the impact its creating on gambling syndicates.
