Veteran pacer Harshal Patel was released by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) ahead of the IPL 2024 mini-auction. The announcement made on Sunday marked the end of Harshal's notable tenure with the Bangalore-based team.

Harshal, who rejoined RCB in 2021, had a remarkable season that year, claiming the coveted Purple Cap with 32 wickets in 15 games. This performance secured his position as a key player for the team, leading RCB to invest a significant ₹10.75 crore in the subsequent auction to retain him. Despite his stellar 2021 season, Harshal experienced a dip in form in 2023, taking 14 wickets at an economy rate of 9.66.

In light of his release, the 33-year-old cricketer took to social media to share his sentiments. In a heartfelt post, he reflected on his journey with RCB, extending his thanks to the team and its members for their immense support.

“I want to share some special memories I’ve had with @royalchallengersbangalore . Last three years have been an incredible journey for me. I want to thank everyone in the team who stood by me through thick and thin. As I move on, I have nothing but gratitude in my heart,” wrote Harshal.

It is worth mentioning that Harshal's impressive performance in the IPL 2021 edition not only garnered acclaim but also paved the way for his inclusion in India's T20I team. He was a part of the T20 World Cup squad in 2022, though he did not make it to the playing XI.

Meanwhile, RCB, led by Faf du Plessis, is gearing up for the upcoming mini-auction with a strategic reshuffle, having retained 17 players and released 11, including Harshal. The team, which failed to qualify for the playoffs in the last edition, finishing sixth, is on the lookout for new talent to bolster their squad in pursuit of their maiden IPL trophy.
