India would look to end their 11-year-long ICC title drought as Rohit Sharma and company eye to clinch the T20 World Cup 2024. Meanwhile, the ongoing tournament would also mark the last competition for Rahul Dravid as India's head coach.

In the past month, BCCI invited applications for the position of head coach and the fans expressed their desire to see Gautam Gambhir succeed Dravid as the two-time World Cup winner recently guided KKR to a IPL title after 10 years.

In the latest events, India's 2007 World Cup winning coach, Lalchand Rajput, also expressed his desire to see Gambhir as the next Indian head coach. Rajput praised Gautam Gautam's character and even called him a 'shrewd tactician' in a positive light.

"Gambhir is a no-nonsense guy, he has played cricket the hard way and he reads the game well and that has been seen for KKR (Kolkata Knight Riders) as well," said Rajput, who coached India to a T20 World Cup win in 2007.

Rajput was left impressed by Gambhir's impact for  KKR and added that the former India opener has won two World Cups and knows how to build a team.

"KKRs the same team last year and you see the difference that he made this year. He is a shrewd tactician as well," said Rajput.

Gambhir, who has won two IPL trophies with KKR as a player, was roped in by the franchise as a mentor for IPL 2024 after the three-time winners finished seventh on the table last year.
