Riding on the back of half centuries from Jemimah Rodrigues and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, India Women posted a formidable 228 for 8 in 50 overs against Bangladesh Women in the second ODI at Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.

After being asked to bat first, India Women got off to a decent start as they managed 40 runs on the board with a loss of one wicket.

Priya Punia failed to make an impact once again as the opener fell victim to a brilliant inswinger from Marufa Akter which nipped back sharply, beating her on the inside edge and destroying the middle stump.

The left-handed batter Yastika Bhatia, at three, looked in great touch but had to go back early due to an unfortunate run-out in the non-striker's end. The momentum was with Bangladesh as the women in blue were struggling to keep up with the scoring rate and the pressure was piling up.

As a result, while trying to increase the scoring rate, Smriti Mandhana lost her way out and India were three down with only 68 on the board.

Jemimah, Harmanpreet steady India's ship

India desperately needed a partnership and Jemimah Rodrigues, at five, joined skipper Harmanpreet Kaur in the middle to start the rebuilding process.

The duo kept the scoreboard ticking and just when India was coming back in the game, Harmanpreet hurt herself while taking a risky single. Subsequently, after staying in the middle for sometime, the Indian skipper had to retire hurt and walked out of the field.

Harleen Deol walked out in the middle and joined Rodrigues to continue the proceedings. Rodrigues completed a well deserving half century and was eyeing a big finish to the Indian innings.

Harmanpreet made her way back in the middle with more than three overs left and completed her half century as well. Eventually, India posted 228 on the board at the end of 50 overs.

Sultana Khatun and Nahida Akter were the pick of the bowlers for Bangladesh Women, especially the way they finished at the end, picking three wickets inside four balls.

After conceding a shocking defeat in the first ODI, Harmanpreet Kaur and team will be keen to defend this total and stay alive in this three-match series. On the other hand, Bangladesh Women have a big opportunity to script history and clinch their first ODI series win over India.
