'He Has Increased His Run-Up By 2-3 Strides'- NCA Coach On Jasprit Bumrah

Champion Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah made his much-awaited return to international cricket in the first T20I against Ireland in Malahide on Friday. The tearaway pacer ended his 329-day hiatus from international cricket on a dream note as he claimed a couple of wickets in his very first over.

His first scalp post-comeback was Bumrah at his absolute best as the ball jagged back viciously off the seam to dislodge the stumps of the Irish opener.

But, more than the dismissals, it's his rhythm and the subtle changes he has made to curb the recurring stress fracture issues which became a massive relief to the Indian fans.

The biggest change is that Bumrah seems to have increased his run-up by a few yards to avoid the immense stress he used to put on his shoulders and back due to his explosive action.

And according to a NCA Level-III certified coach, this will help him play in all three formats of the game without any threat of another back injury.

"While watching him (Bumrah) bowl against Ireland, one could witness that he has increased his run-up by 2-3 strides with a bigger follow through compared to earlier times. It's not a massive revamp of his action but a slight bit of remodelling in order to stay injury free for a long time," the coach said as quoted by PTI.

"It is all about having an increased momentum which is a must for tearaway quick bowlers. Boom was earlier like a fighter jet. But post injury, he has increased I guess 2-3 strides at the max. The slightly longer run-up is giving him time to build the momentum and allow his legs to be a force multiplier," he concluded.

Bumrah registered figures of 2/24 in his quota of 4 overs, and was eventually adjudged the Player of the Match. He also had an impressive outing in the 2nd T20I, scalping two wickets for only 15 runs in his four-over spell.
