Legendary Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin underlined the impact of franchise cricket over the last decade as he lauded the United Arab Emirates [UAE] for their historic win over New Zealand in the 2nd T20I of the ongoing series on Saturday.

Reacting to UAE's magnificent win, Ashwin took to his X account to emphasise the positive impact that franchise T20 leagues have had over cricketers from lesser-known cricket nations.

He also went on to quote the famous example of Afghanistan legend Rashid Khan, who broke on the scene thanks to the T20 leagues and has now become one of the most sought-after cricketers in the world.

"UAE beating New Zealand is a big achievement and it’s also showing us what franchisee cricket has succeeded in doing. There is hope for the next generation cricketer coming from countries that aren’t mainstream test nations and that’s good news for the game," tweeted Ashwin.

"When @rashidkhan_19 broke into the IPL, Afghans weren’t a feared cricketing nation at world cups but now no one can refuse that fact. The future may well see other nations having representations at the IPL and turning the fortunes of the game in their respective countries. Well done UAE. #UAEvsNZ," he added.

Brilliant bowling performances from Jawadullah (2/16 in 4 overs) and Aayan Khan (3/20 in 4 overs) helped the UAE restrict the BlackCaps to 142/8 in 20 overs.

Their run-chase got off to a disastrous start as they lost opener Aryansh Sharma for a 3-ball duck. But a swashbuckling 29-ball 55 from Muhammad Waseem and an unbeaten 29-ball 48 from Asif Khan ensured that the home side went past the finishing line without breaking a sweat.

The third and final T20I between UAE and New Zealand will take place on Sunday, August 20.
