However, a report from The Times of India hints at Bumrah having the upper hand, especially after his stellar leadership and on-field performance against Ireland.
The senior men's selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, is set to meet in New Delhi on Monday to finalize India’s Asia Cup 2023 squad which is widely speculated to be the same lineup for the World Cup 2023.
The meeting promises to be eventful with key cricketing stalwarts joining the discussion. The head coach Rahul Dravid will be present in the capital along with the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma. Additionally, national selector SS Das, accompanying the team in Ireland, will be chiming in virtually.
Meanwhile, Bumrah, in his recent captaincy role against Ireland, not only impressed with his bowling but also displayed exemplary leadership, bagging the Player Of The Match award.
On the other hand, Hardik, known for his electrifying IPL performances, championed the Gujarat Titans to victory in 2022 and a notable second-place finish in 2023. However, credit for their IPL success also heavily leans towards GT head coach, Ashish Nehra.
Moreover, Hardik's recent international campaign in the West Indies wasn't without hitches, casting some doubts on his tactical choices on the global stage.
