Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) batting sensation Abhishek Sharma was one of the few uncapped players who captured everyone's attention in IPL 2024. Opening for SRH, the dashing left-handed batter scored an impressive 484 runs in 16 innings with a strike rate of 204.02.

Remarkably, he became the first batter to accumulate over 400 runs without facing more than 30 balls in any single innings.

In the 2024 IPL season, the southpaw dominated bowlers during the powerplay. Supported by explosive opener Travis Head, Abhishek scored all his runs while maintaining a strike rate in excess of 200.

His effortless six-hitting ability drew widespread attention and led to comparisons with Yuvraj Singh, a natural connection as Abhishek idolized the 2011 World Cup winner from a young age.

In an exclusive conversation with IANS, Abhishek’s father and childhood coach, Rajkumar, discussed the significant influence Yuvraj Singh has had on his son's career.

“When he was a kid, he would wake up his mom (at night) or sister and say ‘mujhe ball pheko mai batting karoonga'. That’s how his passion for cricket grew each day. Yuvraj Singh has had a huge impact on his career. He used to consider him as his idol. Even Yuvi paaji had said ‘mujhe aise lagraha hai mai khud batting karraha hun’ after watching him play,”  said Abhishek Sharma's coach and father Rajkumar Sharma.

With the abundance of talent in Team India, Abhishek may not break into the national squad immediately. However, when he does get his opportunity, he will likely aspire to emulate his idol, Yuvraj Singh.
